They are hard to find east of the Mississippi, unless you are lucky enough to be deep inside Fort Indiantown Gap. The eastern regal fritillary butterfly has made its home at the military training ground for decades.

Charles Henry “Lauc” Lauchheimer was born in September 1859 in Baltimore, Maryland. His military journey began at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, where he graduated in 1881, ranking in the top quarter of his class.
