Task Force Paxton Prepares For Overseas Mission:

The families of Pennsylvania National Guardsmen, from every corner of the state, crowded into drill hall floors, many of them for the first time. This great adventure, the reason many brave young soldiers signed up, was about to begin.

Warner Appointed To Veterans Home Board By Governor Josh Shapiro:

Clinton County Director of Veterans Affairs, Todd R. Warner, Colonel (retired) U.S. Army Reserves, was recently appointed by Governor Josh Shapiro as an official member of the Advisory Council for Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home. 

Saying "Thank You":

Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School students created “thank you” cards for residents at the Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home.

DMVA's Veterans Temporary Assistance Program:

The Veterans Temporary Assistance program, administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), provides temporary financial assistance to veterans and their beneficiaries who reside in Pennsylvania for the necessities of life (food, dairy, shelter, fuel and clothing).

Armstrong County Veterans Honored:

Members of veterans’ organizations from across Armstrong County converged on the Cowansville Roy Frick Booher American Legion Post 325 on to recognize two of their own county veteran awardees for 2023.

Shapiro Administration Announces $600,000 In Grant Funding For Veteran Employment, Support After Service:

Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) Secretary Nancy A. Walker announced $600,000 in funding has been awarded to three workforce development projects to connect veterans with job opportunities and employment support in Pennsylvania counties with high unemployment rates for veterans.

Lawmakers Move To Help Veterans At Risk Of Losing Their Homes:

The chairmen of the U.S. Senate's Banking and Veterans Affairs committees introduced a bill to help veterans at risk of losing their homes because of a COVID-assistance program that the VA ended abruptly in 2022.

Veteran Leadership Program Awarded $200,000 Workforce Development:

The Veterans Leadership Program is working to decrease veteran unemployment rates by providing opportunities for certificates and trainings in marketable job skills, connecting veterans to employers and providing financial assistance for employment-related expenses. 

Virtual Reality Technology Improves Veteran Care:

Walking into the virtual reality clinic, the future of rehabilitation is on display at Central Iowa VA. It’s very different from other methods of rehabilitative care, looking much like videogame technology. While part of the appeal is that the activities are fun, they are highly developed tools rather than games.

Bugles Across America:

Bugles Across America now has over 4,000 bugler volunteers located in all 50 states and a growing number overseas. Since the Department of Veterans Affairs is expecting more than a half million veterans to pass every year for the next seven years, Bugles Across America is always recruiting new volunteers. 

Breast And Gynecologic Oncology System Of Excellence Making Strides:

Breast cancer ranks as the second most common cancer among women in the United States, following skin cancer, and within VA, it’s the most diagnosed cancer for women.

VA Allocates $52.5 Million For Community Organizations Fighting Veteran Suicide:

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recently announced an allocation of $52.5 million in funding for grants geared toward community-based organizations. 

Point In Time: Mapping Veteran Homelessness:

On a single night in January, a dedicated team from Birmingham VA embarked on a crucial mission along with scores of others. Their goal was not only to count the homeless population but also to identify veterans among them as part of the annual Point in Time (PIT) Count.

"Heal-arious": Military Spouse's Comedy Mission Is To Bring Laughs To Bases In Japan:

Ashley Gutermuth, named the 2023 Air Force spouse of the year by Armed Forces Insurance, uses her social media presence to highlight issues affecting military families such as food insecurity, spouse unemployment rates and housing.

The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is seeking a registered nurse instructor for its Southeastern Veterans' Center. The successful candidate will develop and implement an effective orientation program for all new nursing employees to assist staff in striving for and achieving resident care goals. White Oak Vet Center Schedules Galentine's Day Gathering:

White Oak Vet center is hosting a Galentine's Day event on Feb. 13, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. This is an opportunity for women veterans to gather, make connections, share camaraderie and enjoy some coffee and sweet treats. The center is located in the Oak Park Mall, 2001 Lincoln Way, Suite 280, White Oak, PA. Attendees are asked to R.S.V.P.
