Everyone 5+ is Eligible for COVID-19 Boosters
Everyone 5 years old or older is strongly encouraged to get a booster shot.
If you are age 5 or older, you are eligible for a booster shot if it has been:
• 5 months or longer since you received your second dose of the Pizer-BioNTech (for those 5 or older) or Moderna (for those 18 or older) COVID-19 vaccine
• 2 months or longer since you received your Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine
Eligible individuals 18 years and older may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. Most adults 18+, regardless of which vaccine you first received, should get Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna for your booster dose.
If you are age 5-17, you are eligible for a Pfizer-BioNTech booster shot if it has been 5 months or longer since you received your second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. 5- to17-year-olds are only eligible to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech booster
The CDC recommends a second booster shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines for those over 50. It also applies for those over 18 years old who are moderately or severely immunocompromised.
The latest booster recommendations are found on the CDC’s website.
Get Testing if You Have COVID-19 Symptoms
If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please get tested for the virus – especially if you have been in contact with someone who has been infected. For those who are fully vaccinated, the CDC guidance only recommends you get tested if you’ve had a known exposure to someone with COVID-19.
Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat and new loss of taste or smell.

Vaccines are the best way to protect yourself from COVID-19. Everyone 5 and older can get a COVID-19 vaccine in Pennsylvania.
Question of the Week
If we need a booster shot, are the vaccines working?
Yes. COVID-19 vaccines are working well to prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and death. However, public health experts are starting to see reduced protection over time against mild and moderate disease, especially among certain populations.
