In Pennsylvania, we are celebrating the first COVID-19 vaccine to receive full approval from the FDA. It is an important milestone in our fight against COVID-19. Hundreds of millions of people have already safely received authorized COVID-19 vaccines, but we know there are many who have been waiting for full approval from the FDA before getting theirs. With today’s announcement, we hope Pennsylvanians who were previously hesitant are now ready to get their vaccine.
“Today’s announcement is great news as we continue to fight COVID-19 and its variants,” said Gov. Wolf in a statement this afternoon. “Full approval by the FDA solidifies the overall safety and efficacy of the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. We hope this encourages people to get vaccinated who may have been hesitant while it was classified as emergency use to not only protect themselves, but their loved ones and everyone else around them.”
The Pfizer vaccine will continue to be available under emergency use authorization for those 12 to 15 years old, and as third doses for people who are immunocompromised. Moderna and Johnson & Johnson’s vaccines will continue to be available under emergency use authorization.
